You got a card in the mail from us. It did not say anything is wrong with your business, because we do not know that. Here are three checks you can run yourself, right now, on the phone you are holding. They will show you what a customer actually sees when they look you up. Then you can decide whether you need anything at all. Most people find one thing worth fixing and it is usually free.
Type your business name and your town into Google. Look for the panel with your hours, phone and photos in it. Is it there? Are the hours right? Is the phone number the one you actually answer?
That panel is your Google Business Profile. It is free, it takes about twenty minutes to fill in properly, and it is the single most valuable thing on this page. There is nothing in it for us and we will not charge you for it. If it is missing or wrong, fix that first, before you spend money with us or with anybody else.
Fix it free at GoogleOpen a private browsing window, the kind that does not sign you in, and go to your own Facebook page. Try to read your reviews. Try to read your about section.
Most people cannot. Logged-out visitors are commonly served an error or a sign-in prompt instead of the reviews you spent years earning. Everyone who does not use Facebook, and everyone who cannot be bothered to sign in to look up a contractor, gets that instead of you. A Facebook page is a fine place to post finished work. It is a poor place to be the only proof your business exists.
If you have a website, turn wifi off and open it on mobile data. Does it load? Can you tap the phone number to call? Are the services listed the ones you still do?
If you do not have one, skip this. Half the licensed contractors in this county do not have one either: 523 of the 1,005 we could look up. That is not a scolding, it is just the number.
Scan a site you already have, freeThen you are in better shape than most and you do not need us. Keep your Google profile current and get on with your work. We would rather tell you that than sell you something.
Fix that first, free, using the link in check one. It is worth more than anything we sell. Come back afterwards if you still want a site.
That is the thing we actually do. We build it for $899 one time, then $29 a month to host it, keep your domain renewed and make changes when you need them. We write the copy with you on a phone call, put your CCB number where customers look for it so they can see you are licensed and bonded, and point your domain at it when you are happy.
What a build involvesThat a website gets you recommended by ChatGPT. Plenty of people are selling that. We tested it across 34 assistant questions about five Roseburg trades and found essentially no relationship between how well a site is built and how often an assistant named that business. What visibly drove it was Google review count, which is why check one is first and free.
There is one real exception and it is why we build sites the way we do. Vercel and MERJ instrumented more than 500 million AI crawler fetches and found the crawlers download JavaScript and never run it (Vercel, The rise of the AI crawler). A site that builds its words in the browser shows up to them blank. That is a real defect with a real cause. It is still not a promise that anyone will name you.
"Every business in this town is getting described to a customer by a machine that has never walked through the front door. We would rather that description be right."
We published the whole study, including the parts that went against us. Read it here.
